Contest Update: Logo Design

Thursday, June 14th, 2007

UPDATE: THIS CONTEST HAS BEEN CANCELLED.

As you all know, my last contest for modding your Mac was a dud - 257 inquiries and only 1 actual entry. This new contest to design my logo is shaping up to be a dud also, with no entries after over a week being posted, and only one inquiry as of today. Since the contests cost money out of pocket to run, I’ve decided that if I receive no entries at all by the weekend, I will cancel the contest and just design my own masthead logo. (more…)

Mac and EA Getting Their Game Face On

Wednesday, June 13th, 2007

Good news for Mac users who want more game selection. Because of the high numbers of staff members, family and friends who have switched to Mac, EA’s head honcho has decided to expand EA Game’s Mac focus to include all of their titles. There is no mention of how many of the games currently in their portfolio will work with the older 950 GMA video card models, but it’s a start.

Choose Mac For Security

Tuesday, June 12th, 2007

One of the longest standing arguments for choosing a Mac has been their claims to be more secure than the average PC. I’ve been a Mac user since the days of the Apple II and Apple IIe, so I can vouch for this claim personally. In the intervening decades, all of my MAcs combined have had an issue with malware exactly… three times. All three times were incredibly easy to fix. The PCs I’ve used over the years for various clients, even the ones I’ve built and used for myself, have come down with viruses on a regular basis, even with protection against them in force. Safari On Windows

Monday, June 11th, 2007

Via: Digg

This could bode well for the Apple users who have had to leave the oh-so-pretty Safari interface to use FireFox because of extensive compatibility issues. Perhaps with Safari available to develop for on a Windows platform, more web sites and web forms will become Safari compatible as well as FireFox, Camino and IE compatible. (more…)

Apple Announces New Animated OS at WWDC

Friday, June 8th, 2007

The much anticipated WWDC is here, and Steve Jobs made one of many cool announcements: a new animated OS for apple. The software he used to illustrate the point, a disc burning software named Disco, blows smoke while it burns. Why is that cool? Because if you blow into your Mac’s built in microphone the smoke blows across your desktop. It’s not only animated, it’s reactive animation. Very cool.

At the annual Worldwide Developers Conference in San Francisco, Jobs will probably show off Leopard, a Mac OS X update due in October that he has promised contains “top secret” features. But perhaps the most important feature is one that has been overlooked by many Apple fans: a new set of tools for building program interfaces called Core Animation.

I can’t wait until Monday for the official unveiling of the rest of the features. Look to Apple Reporter to get the scoop.

June Contest Apple Reporter Logo Design

Thursday, June 7th, 2007

UPDATE: THIS CONTEST HAS BEEN CANCELLED.

I am creating a new masthead for Apple Reporter. That little “talking bubble” is getting so passé now that Apple Reporter is gathering momentum (and readers) don’t you think? There are some guidelines to follow, of course, and a deadline, and of course, prizes! So what’s the scoop? (more…)

iPhone Release and Rumors

Monday, June 4th, 2007

It’s official, the much-anticipated iPhone has a release date: June 29th. The commercial aired during 60 Minutes this week confirmed what we’ve all been waiting to hear: when, exactly, we can get our hot little hands on an iPhone.

Now the speculation can begin in earnest. some of my favorite Mac rumors swirling around the interwebs today are the rumor of the 12th mystery application, the opening of the iPhone platform at WWDC in June and the New York Times’ concern that the iPhone has been so hyped people will actually be disappointed with it once they get it. (not likely)
