Guitar Hero 3 Legends of Rock - coming to your Mac December 10th (Update)
Aspyr, primary porter of popular PC games to the Mac, has announced that the ported version of Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock will be coming to the Mac December 10th. No word on system requirements yet, though I wouldn’t be surprised if some of the best features are Leopard only.

The game will come with a USB-operated guitar controller, similar to the ones used for other systems. The price has not yet been announced either. Is anyone planning on purchasing it?
Update: The article has hit the front page of the Apple section of Digg, and along with that a lot of new information from assorted people has come in.
First off, a number of people have criticized the part where I wrote “though I wouldn’t be surprised if some of the best features are Leopard only”. Note I am NOT in any way an Apple app developer, and I assumed that perhaps they would use Core Animation in the game. Andrew in the comments notes that Aspyr is merely porting the game, and not rewriting it completely, so the chance of new features is not probable.
The system requirements, which were not there at time of posting, have apparently now been added, as Gneekman pointed out in the comments. They can be found here, towards the bottom of the page. As suspected, it is Intel-only.
Thanks for all the Diggs everyone.

Answer: No.

$20 says it’s Intel-only.

Heck yes I am! Guitar Hero was almost enough of a reason for me to go buy a TV and game system. Now I can just keep my mac! Sweet!

‘best features’ Leopard only? I’ve never seen a game unlock special features for a particular version of operating system.

“though I wouldn’t be surprised if some of the best features are Leopard only.”
I laughed when I read that line. Please don’t be an idiot.

Guess you didn’t hear about the whole DX10 and vista thing did ya?

I’m actually more curious to know if this USB guitar will be hijacked for the free guitar hero clones on the PC.
Also curious to see if people figure out how to get custom songs onto the Mac version like they did with the consoles.

Leopard has core animation built in this might be something they would use.

Hell yeah. I actually pre-ordered this on Amazon the other day. It said it was PC/Mac, so…
Well in any case this is kind of old news, as Aspyr posted about it on their website.
They HAVE announced system requirements and of COURSE it’s Intel only. Did anyone doubt that it would be?

I wonder…can I plug my 360 guitar straight into my mac or is there gonna be a special Apple guitar?
…which will undoubtably look cooler and play better than those terrible MS guitars…

Aspyr is not gonna leverage any of Apple’s coreimage technologies to produce a game, thats frankly downright idiotic as has already been pointed out. Aspyr is porting this game, not rewriting it for mac. Apple’s core technologies are really more suited for the independent developer, its not really capable of creating a graphics-intensive game.

The guitar will be the same as that included in the PC bundle, which is the same as that for the Xbox 360. The “Mac” version is actually a Mac/PC hybrid version that will install on either system. It will replace the current Windows only version. Take some care and read the box before opening; it would suck to get a Windows-only version and not be able to exchange it for the hybrid because it’s open.

For all of the people who mentioned “special features in Leopard”, I meant Core Animation. I’ve never used Core Animation, as I’m not any type of Mac app developer, so that was a bad guess on my part. Sorry.

@10:
Yesterday when I was writing this, the specs weren’t there. Just weird timing I guess for them to add it right after I posted it. I’ll update accordingly.
